One
of
the
Objectives
in
the
By-Laws
of
the
Alberta
Game
Warden
Association
(AGWA)
is
“To
encourage
and
develop
camaraderie
and
‘esprit
de
corps’
among
[the
members
of
the
Association
and
their
supporters].”
This
is
where
the
Social
Committee
takes
a
lead
role.
There
are
several
yearly
events
organized
by
the
Social
Committee.
The
Annual
General
Meeting
(AGM)
usually
takes
place
in
late
winter
or
early
spring.
This
is
a
business
meeting
for
all
members.
Additionally,
there
may
be
speakers
and/or
seminars
to
promote
professional
development
of
Officers.
After
the
business
agenda
is
concluded
for
the
day,
there
are
evening
social
events
where
members
and
supporters
gather
for
enjoyment.
An
annual
hockey
tournament
put
on
by
AGWA
brings
out
staff,
family
and
friends
from
the
entire
Fish
and
Wildlife
Division.
It
is
strictly
a
“fun”
event
that
includes
a
banquet
supper
and
dance.
The
structure
has
varied
over
the
years
but
traditionally,
teams
are
based
on
regions
in
the
Province
and
compete
for
the
trophies
in
a
round
robin,
then
playoff
format.
AGWA
also
hosts
a
yearly
summertime
campout
for
Fish
and
Wildlife
staff
and
families.
Locations
vary
in
the
Province.
There
are
fun
events
focused
around
golf,
fishing,
talent
shows,
and
the
ever-popular
Game
Warden
Games,
which
puts
teams
against
each
other
in
a
series
of
challenges
that
are
only
limited
by
the
organizer’s
imagination.
Even
in
years
where
the
weather
has
not
cooperated,
the
only
negative
aspect
ever
encountered
at
the
campout
is
when
the
weekend
is
over.
The
Social
Committee
has
organized
many
other
events
in
its
history.
There
have
been
curling
bonspiels,
paintball
games,
golf
tournaments
and
even
a
flag
football
team
sent
to
the
Law
Enforcement
games.
At
the
time
of
writing,
plans
are
underway
for
a
joint
AGM
with
the
Saskatchewan
Association
of
Conservation
Officers
(SACO)
on
April
2-4,
2004
in
North
Battleford,
Saskatchewan.
In
February
of
1996
AGWA
and
the
British
Columbia
Conservation
Officers
Association
held
a
joint
meeting
in
Banff,
Alberta,
and
in
March
of
1999,
SACO
and
AGWA
held
a
joint
conference
in
Cold
Lake,
Alberta,
both
of
which
proved
to
be
valuable
in
the
sharing
of
knowledge
and
spreading
the
“esprit
de
corps”
with
fellow
Game
Wardens
across
borders.
Game
Wardens
have
a
common
bond,
not
only
held
by
profession,
but
by
a
passionate
commitment
to
do
a
job
that
is
essential
to
ensure
natural
resources
are
there
for
future
generations.
Geographically
spread
out
over
an
entire
Province,
we
come
together
on
our
own
time
and
expense
to
maintain
and
strengthen
those
bonds. |
